Welcome to St. Giles

Welcome to our school

As Headteacher, I feel privileged to serve the pupils of St Giles within an exceptional school and community, where warmth, expertise and inclusion shape every aspect of school life.

Our school supports pupils aged 2–19 years, with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), severe learning difficulties (SLD), and a wide range of complex physical, medical and communication needs. Each pupil is unique and we are deeply proud of the diversity, personality and spirit that they bring to our school. With their individuality and unique ways of communicating, our pupils are at the heart of everything we do and their achievements, whether small steps or significant milestones, shape our purpose each day.

What defines St Giles is the way we know each pupil: how they communicate, how they regulate and how they learn best. Through carefully structured pathways, trusted routines and the right medical and therapeutic support, every pupil’s strengths, preferences and potential are recognised. It is our responsibility and privilege to nurture that potential in ways that are meaningful, personalised and joyful. Communication and inclusion sit at the heart of all we do, through Makaton, AAC, switches, objects of reference and shared moments of connection, ensuring every pupil is heard, respected and celebrated and that their achievements are recognised and valued.

Strong, compassionate relationships sit at the core of our work across all pathways.

Our staff create highly individualised learning experiences through rich, sensory and experiential opportunities shaped around readiness, communication and engagement.

Our curriculum is anchored by the four pillars of access, communication, behaviour and ambition, giving a consistent thread of purpose across all curriculum pathways from Early Years through to Upper School years.

Partnerships with families are central to our success. Our daily communication and close collaboration with a wide range of professionals ensures that no family navigates their journey alone. We are proud of our excellent transition pathways and of our commitment to preparing pupils for their next steps with dignity, clarity and care.

As a leadership team at all levels, we are passionate and committed to building on the school’s many strengths whilst continuing to evolve and innovate. Supported by our dedicated staff and Governors, our vision, “Be the best you can be”, is lived every day through our values of respect, responsibility, participation, cooperation, choice, celebration and community. These values guide how we teach, how we support and how we understand each pupil’s unique journey.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about our school. If you require any further details or would like to discuss working in partnership, please do not hesitate to reach out. Thank you for being a part of our school community.
